… I am always amazed when my super-friend José Ramón Alcalá tells me about his projects. This is his last one: LÚMEN EX 2010, Digital Art Awards. If you are a great geek who loves the digital art, check it out!

Commited to the creation and dissemination of Contemporary Culture, the University of Extremadura, Spain, through the Vice-Chancellor of University Extension, and considering the interest in promoting young artists between national and international development of new artistic languages, announces the first edition of LÚMEN_EX 2010, Digital Art Awards.

Since 1992, the University of Extremadura has announced Artistic Creation Awards, through which, has led to the formation of an Art Collection in order to provide the university community and the general public direct acces to the understanding, study and enjoyment of new languages and artistic vanguards.

Being sensitive to the evolution of these languages and techniques and trying to cooperate actively in the construction of the new digital culture, still emerging, the UEx, through the Vice-Chancellor of University Extension, is now entering a new section of its art collection, which previous updates, to promote and convene these first international Digital Art Awards, LÚMEN_EX 2010, directed by José Ramón Alcalá and selected by a prestigious jury.

Science Label began as a new platform of Spanish music with its base in Beijing [China]. They offer an eclectic and opened music concept, where we do not follow only one kind of sound. Influenced by an enormous variety of styles, their leitmotiv is giving different visions of dance music, where the most important aspect is the passion for what they do and for the good taste.

Yang Tao is reviving up the DorkbotBJ that Deegan and Sleepy started in Beijing and Jon Phillips is helping promote. Thanks to them the upcoming Dorkbot BJ meeting will be at CORE Labs. 

Everyone with an interest in “doing strange things with electricity” [music, video art, software development, mechanical engineering, circuit bending, interactivity, anything...] is invited to come along and check out and participate in lively discussion. From the Core labs crew, Marula and Rez will talk about some projects that they are currently developing in this moment, and anyone can explain what they’re up to, show their projects, promoting related activities, requesting help or thinking about the next Dorkbot. Maybe Processing? Arduino?

On 24th July between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm, a mini-bus will drive those waiting at the front door of 798 [entrance N.2] 4th Rd of Jiu Xianqiao. The event starts at 7:30 pm and will go until 9:30 pm.

After that, it’s totally drink time… have fun and also, for the most braves, we can go to the “outside” with the projector and the computers. Summer is even for geeks! [Don't forget the mosquito killer]

This event is free and open to the public. Bring your hardware, laptop, sounds, and yourself!
