PROFESSIONAL BIO .

In ART HISTORY graduated and majored in FINE ARTS, I began my professional career in 2002, with a year scholarship to organize SITUACIONES [Festival of Contemporary Artistic Creation in Cuenca] and working in MIDE [International Investigation Museum and Center of Multimedia].

In 2004, while studying the first year of Ph.D in NET.ART, I collaborated in the production of OBSERVATORI [International Festival of Artistic Research of Valencia]. And in 2005, I finished a post-graduate course of MULTIMEDIA CREATION. From then, I began to focus on Design, VJing and the digital culture, while also organizing as curator monthly audiovisual projects and workshops in which shows related to vjs, video creations, electronic music were put on.

During 2006 and 2007, TOYOTA contracted me as artist and visual producer in a two-year tour of concerts nation-wide in Spain. In 2007, I started working with DELACREW in Barcelona, taking part in their commercial department putting together projects for Vodafone, Samsung and Universal Music among others.

And it was in 2008 when I moved to Beijing to start the CORE Labs project [www.corelabs.cn] as Art Director and Curator, a cultural platform dedicated to try out, develop, research, experiment and promulgate digital and audiovisual culture from China.

ARTISTIC BIO

My work has always been related with the art and especially the Digital Art and New Technologies world. In 2005 I began to experiment as MARULA with real time video, Vj performances and visual instalations, using different software and hadware.

Based on improvisation and research as an intuitive and direct way of art , I work interpreting the narrative structures, mainly with electronic music. I construct the scenes, shoot the material, manage postproduction and design. Then I mix this material in realtime making long compositions by restructuring, mixing and selecting shorts of pre-existing source material, creating my subjective environment [delaying the compositions, changing their speed, reversing, repeating and hurting the temporal coherence], trying to generate from each live session a new audiovisual real-time narrative.

Sometimes I do it, sometimes I don’t.

Though I love the Vj Sessions in clubs for the high improvisation and spontaneous synergy between sound and image, I also have presented my work through different channels: in concerts, galleries, museums, festivals, releases and net labels. In these cases my work highly dependent on how it is shown. It is often built or customized for a specific project improvising with what’s available [input and output]. By definition are different versions each time.

In 2008, I am sellected by The International Association of Arts Critics [AICA], after a hard selection process, as the Spanish respresentative in the ‘European Exhibition of Young Artists’ [EEYA], an exhibition that tours around Europe between 2008 and 2009 where each of the 22 European countries have a participant.

Now, I continue working building community on artistic projects in Beijing [China] on a range of projects as artistic director, curator and Vj, participating in different exhibitions, events and projects between Europe and China and a little few more things.
